Pat's article, "The Fruits of Intervention"
by Pat Buchanan was the best "I told you so" I've ever seen. Pat was alone in objecting to intervention in Iraq long before we went in. Pat's unique stand on our policies in the middle east have long been insightful. He's a true leader. His predictions have come to pass. Those who don't think for themselves were easily lead by both the Democrats and Republicans into our foray into Iraq. Though Pat stood alone for a long time, he is now being joined by people who have come to realize that the Republicrat policies toward the Middle East were not well thought out. When Bush declared victory against the Taliban and their guests, the Al Quida Network in Afghanistan, we should have pulled out then and let them sort out their own problems. True, the was the reasonable argument that when the Soviet Union left Afghanistan, a vacuum was created and filled by the Talibank who immediately set out to disarm and terrorize Afghanis with their orthodox Islamic slant. Had the Afghanis not permitted the Taliban to disarm themselves, we would not be having this discussion. Hopefully, the Afghanis have learned a lesson. We should immediately withdraw from Afghanistan and let them sort out their own problems. And armed Afghanistan won't let the Telaban back. Our insistance on staying in Afghanistan is the very reason the Taliban is making a comeback. And that's also the same reason Iraqis are becoming disenchanted with us. And, if the orthodox Taliban should take over Afghanistan and Iraq (and the rest of the Islamic world) they would immediately set about taking those countries right back to the sixth century where they would be no harm to us. Afer a couple of generations of Taliban rule, and consequent more hands cut off, heads cut off and tounges cut out, those starving countries would then want us to return. An American withdrawal now from ALL islamic countries would be a 'strategic advance to the rear' . I'm confident the Taliban will render those countries harmless. The Taliban will return those countries to 'donkey-and-buggy' economy. Anyone doubt this? Islamic fundamentalism (read orthodoxy) is Islamic countries worst enemy. Let them destroy themselves.
People of Islamic countries have seen enough 'goodies' (consumer products) of the western world. Now that they've seen Paris, they'll want to leave the farm.
Admittedly, this 'isolationalist' policy suggestion would cost us the loss of Islamic oil but if you consider our military ventures to secure that oil, you begin to realize just how expensive that substance is. We should manufacture our own oil and buttress that with all forms of alternate energies. We really don't need their damn oil. We're Americans, we can invent our way out of energy shortages. Staying in oil rich Islamic countries only draws down our own treasury. Our wealth is being sapped by these backward people. Islamic countries do not yet deserve to be freinds with this Constitutional, Christian, Capitalistic country.
